This program was set off in the year 1979 with the desire to lend
a helping hand to financially weak but otherwise talented students.
However, gradually, this piecemeal endeavor evolved into a full-fledged
scholarship program. As of now, the basic idea is to provide monetary
support not only to such students, but also to encourage others to
come up with better academic results.
The deserving candidates are screened from ever increasing number of
applicant by an evaluation system, which comprises of reviewing the
academic record and family’s financials, followed by a short
written test and an interview at local level. Those applying from other
cities and remote areas are evaluated on bases of academic record,
family’s financial position and a confidential report from the
local representative in that city or the institute in which student
is enrolled. The concept behind the individual test and interview is
to analyze the academic performance of students with reference to their
I.Q. and their grasp over their academic curriculum.
The shortage of dedicated people to fulfill the responsibilities of
TMT’s coordinators in other cities makes it very difficult for
the TMT to extend the benefits of the scholarship program and its
other activities at the national level. Due to this constraint the
majority of beneficiaries are from the state of Uttar Pradesh, and
most of them belonged to the city of Lucknow.
The amount of scholarship, however, is insufficient
for quality education in the prevalent commercialized educational scenario.
It is primarily due to the shortage of finances and increasing number
of deserving candidates that the revision of scholarship amount is
not pragmatically workable. Anyhow, a Special Committee has been formed
this year as well for re-evaluating the levels of scholarship / sponsorship
so as to achieve the best from the present limited resources.
Developing a national level network, providing substantial amounts
as scholarship and further improving upon the evaluation process remains
our priority for the next year as well under the scholarship program. |
