Established in 1995, the Unity Industrial Training Center (UITC)
provides vocational training to create opportunities for sustained
livelihood for those who have not been able to pursue mainstream
education. The center is located on the Unity College campus in a
closed area of 8005 square feet.

Courses offered: There are
eight courses affiliated to the National Council of Vocational
Training (NCVT), Government of India; and 10 private certified
courses.

NCVT admissions: 120 students were enrolled in the NCVT-recognized
courses of draughtsman civil; computer operator; stenography
(English & Hindi); cutting and sewing; mechanic; refrigeration and
air conditioning; and hair and skin care, in 2006-07.

Other admissions: 500
students were enrolled in private-certified courses of tally
accounting; office automation; AutoCAD; fashion designing; English
speaking; electrician; draughtsman civil; typing; and data entry
operator, in 2006-07.

Infrastructure: The air conditioning and refrigeration, computer
oriented courses, draughtsmanship, electrician, hair and skincare
are supported by well-equipped workshops.

Field trips: As part of the training programs, students are sent
on exposure trips to reputed units such as Geological Survey of
India, Surya Ice Factory, Nokia Regional office in Lucknow, Fun
City, and Zee Shopping Mall.

Curriculum: The center runs programs in coordination with
reputed bodies such as National Council for Vocational Training,
Ministry of Labor (Government of India), Indira Gandhi National Open
University (IGNOU) and the internationally-acclaimed National CFC
Consumption Phase-out Plan (NCCOPP) (a joint venture of Germany,
Switzerland and the United Nations).

Placement: The center commands a strong reputation in the job
market for all its courses, particularly those of draughtsman civil,
AC and refrigeration, electrician, cutting and sewing trades.

New courses: In line with the ever-growing demand for skilled
workers and technicians, the center is in the process of introducing
new courses, acquiring affiliation for non-certified courses,
enhancing the number of seats within recognized courses, and
improving infrastructure.

Independent campus: Plans are
on to develop an independent campus for UITC within 2 to 3 kms from
the current premises.
